Rebecca van Gennip- Artist
Rebecca van Gennip (she/her) is a fine artist based in Georgina, Ontario, and has a Bachelor of Fine Art Honours degree with a major in Visual Art, and a minor in Art History from Queen's University.

"My paintings explore my experience of navigating loss through the domestic space of home. Home is a place that represents familiarity, and allows vulnerability, and the fragility of life is expressed through delicate scenes with uneasy undertones. I investigate the metaphor of the interior as the spaces within my mind, and how personal possessions can be personified to communicate my thoughts. My chosen technique of alla-prima oil painting adds emotional depth with blurry, fluid textures that replicate flashbacks or tear-flooded eyes. Currently, this navigation of universal hardships is contemplated through the lens of memories and unpacking generational emotions. I continue to reflect on how intense losses have shaped my life and offer comfort to others through how I visually communicate this inevitable journey."
